Snowmobiling

Snowmobile trails

Hemavan is one of northern Sweden’s most popular areas for snowmobiling, with vast mountain landscapes, deep forests and a well-developed trail network. In Storuman Municipality, there are around 1,300 kilometres of snowmobile trails that take you through villages, forests and open mountain terrain, making the area highly accessible for both shorter rides and full-day excursions.

Adjacent to this, Syterskalet is taking shape, where snowmobiling is planned as a natural part of the area alongside accommodation, a village centre and skiing. A connected system is being created, making it easy to access the trails directly from the area and continue into the surrounding mountain landscape.

Snowmobiling in Syterskalet
Trails, freeriding and mountain experiences
Snowmobiling in Hemavan offers great variety. There are well-maintained trails that take you through valleys, across lakes and up into the mountains, as well as opportunities for freeriding in areas such as Jofjället and other open mountain slopes.

For many, the snowmobile is a way to reach places that are otherwise difficult to access on skis, such as fishing lakes, viewpoints and shelters. Others appreciate the longer routes that allow for full-day adventures in the mountains or travel between different parts of the area.

The trails are maintained by the municipality, associations and local stakeholders, and through trail permits, both visitors and property owners contribute to maintenance, safety and the long-term quality of the trail system.

Syterskalet – snowmobiling in a planned mountain area
In Syterskalet, snowmobiling is integrated into the area’s planning from the outset. Connections to Hemavan’s existing trail network are planned, allowing direct access by snowmobile from the area to the mountains, valleys and surrounding routes.

The design plans also include snowmobile garages and designated areas for handling and storage, creating a well-functioning logistics system for both residents and visitors. The goal is to enable smooth and organised snowmobile traffic without disturbing the living environment or the natural surroundings.

As the area develops alongside new homes, lifts and a future centre, a comprehensive concept is created where snowmobiling, skiing and mountain experiences come together. This makes Syterskalet an attractive destination both for shorter local rides and for longer adventures in Hemavan’s mountain landscape.
